Liège, Belgium, 5th August 1914: Several days following the initial assault on Liège, OHL Reserve's siege guns were ordered to the area. These contained the enormous Krupp artillery guns "Großes Bertha and the Austrian heavy howitzers "Schlanke Emma." At 0800 on the 5th of August, the massive siege guns opened fire on Fort de Pontisse throwing huge plumes of debris hundreds of feet into the air. Four hours later the fort was in ruin and the garrison surrendered to German troops. In a short amount of time the way would be clear for von Kluck's advancing 1.Armee. Hard to call the balance on this since your success depends on siege weapons disrupting units in forts, so you can assault, and that's a die roll. Great little trainer for game though and good exercise for taking forts.
Good primer to learn how to take forts.
