Marne River, France, 6th September 1914: The audacious German advance across Belgium and northern France in August of 1914 seemingly crushed everything in its path. However, as the German armies moved closer to Paris and the front line began to expand, Moltke's modifications to the Schlieffen Plan began to slowly diminish the ability of the flanking armies to execute their sweeping movement around Paris. Von Kluck decided to pivot his 1.Armee's axis of advance in front of Paris in order to pursue the French Ve Armée and drive the BEF before him. This, he thought, would allow 1.Armee and 2.Armee to move into the enemy's rear area and surround and isolate six French armies in a Cannae type strategy. As the world watched the events unfold, the French were determined to make one last stand to counter attack and stop the German juggernaut. Unbeknownst to the Germans, a newly organized VIe Armée was formed in Paris and was poised to strike their flank. The stage was now set for a massive clash along the Marne River and the French had nothing left than to hope for a miracle. Both sides must attack! Both armies tired.
great scenario, hard fighting until the last turn
Huge scenario, well suited to multiplayer (Doctor and I won a major win as the Germans in a multiplayer game a few years back that we did not register) and tons of fun solo. One of the best scenarios in any game. Both sides absolutely must attack at different or often the same places, each side has some reserves the French have more) but mostly the front line troops have to rely on their own resources.
