This scenario is a combination of #1914_0826_01s_Bischofsburg, #1914_0826_02s_Gross_Gardienen, and continues with #1914_0827_01s_Tannenberg with Strategies and Operations selections. For a more historical situation, all three scenarios should be played separately instead. The intent of this scenario is to allow the commanders to have more control over how the Battle of Tannenberg develops but including the prelude battles of August 26th, and the approach march of the Russian XV and XIII Army Corps. [Size: large] *See the notes document for information on scenario design decisions and historical notes. *Please read the briefing and notes for the #1914_0826_01s_Bischofsburg, #1914_0826_02s_Gross_Gardienen, #1914_0827_01s_Tannenberg, scenarios since much of that information still applies.

It seemed that the Russians were capable of achieving much more than Samsonov did historically, but when the scenario ended it became clear that their centre has been penetrated and they had the boches deep in the rear ready to hit their backs. The full reserve corps was on the move in there. Eerie.

I've only played as the German side, so am not so sure how good it would seem from a Russian perspective. For most of the game it was at a Central Powers' minor defeat level, so at one point it seemed almost impossible to win, let alone reach the major victory that I eventually achieved.

Very enjoyable. The terrain is particularly interesting and played a key part in the game.

Russian player must make a very important strategic decision with the 15th cavalry division. Russ must run away with VI Corps asap especially the (attached)4th cav division which tends to get annihilated.

Russian player may not commit too much force to the front. The 15th cav must move right to cover the rear and 6th cav needs to get mounted up as well or else the Germans will be marching around in the rear gobbling up VP hexes.

The German player must attack relentlessly on his left vs. Russian VI Corps even though German troops there begin the game with 150 fatigue.

Russian needs to retreat his exposed
northern right flank to keep it from being
surrounded and eliminated.

The Russians really need explicit supply to stand a chance.

supply.

It is interesting that both of us who were playing it pretty well blind felt we were doing worse than the other side for a lot of the game.

An enjoyable game with quite a bit of movement in it with a decent but manageable number of units.

A tough battle for both sides as the Russian player has multiple flanks for the Germans to exploit in the center. On the far right, a detached Russian corps has to withdraw under heavy German fire. Seizing Allenstein and holding the center against heavy German counterattacks managed to keep the Russians ahead in points. This is a great scenario for anyone interested in the whole East Prussia campaign.
