Hohenstein, East Prussia, 27th August 1914: After the German XX.Armeekorps scattered the Russian 2nd Infantry Division near Groß Gardienen on the 26th, a situation had now developed where the hitherto victorious Russian XV Army Corps was now poised to attack further west towards Osterode, but its left flank was now possibly in jeopardy. XV Army Corps had a tough task: shore up its own southern flank, continue to push across the Drewenz where it could, and retain control of Hohenstein. The stage was set for a desperate fight for Samsonov's over extended center as elements of four Russian divisions faced off against two active, one reserve, and two territorial German divisions, one of which was just now arriving from the north on the Russian flank.[Size: medium] *See the notes document for information on scenario design decisions and historical notes.

A very fun scenario to play as there is lots of ebb and flow with who's attacking who.

Excellent. Our game went down to the last attack. Both sides have an equal chance to carry the field. Everything from the notes to the actual scenario are superior. A must play.

The win came in the South where the Germans were able to take objectives and gain many ZOC captures

The Russian Army (especially its infantry) packs a lot of punch.

The German's better morale probably pulled them through here. Fresh Russian reinforcements including Guard units are a menace late on.

The Russians really can't lose the two 250VP hexes. Conversely it seems odd to have so many German VP hexes when the Russians are pretty much on the defensive.

Both sides over overwhelming firepower and masses of troops.

Well balanced, with horrendous butcher's bill for both sides.
