Syrmian region, Austro-Hungarian Empire, 6th September 1914:

Since the start of the war, Serbia pleaded with her allies France and Russia to send badly needed arms and ammunition. However both France and Russia were under full scale attack and had very little to spare, and they were under such pressure that they asked Serbia to go on the offensive in order to divert the attention of Central Powers. The request was suicidal, but the Serbians knew that they needed to do something in order to encourage both allies to send much needed aid. To fulfill this obligation, the Serbians launched a limited offensive across the Sava in a lightly defended region known as Syrmia.

Potiorek would mostly ignore this invasion while he hastily prepared his own offensive across the Drina; it was up to the Austro-Hungarian forces garrisoning the region to delay the Serbian advance as much as possible.

A balancing act for the AH forces, hold enough to delay the Serbs, without losing heavily.

Both sides get to attack. There is a lot of space. The margin between totally victory and disaster is close for both sides...

A highly entertaining scenario.

The Serbian player needs to push hard whilst minimizing losses, the Austro-Hungarian player needs to make sure his units don't lose their integrity during the retreat.

The Serbs need a LOT of VPs to win the game, so many that I'm not sure they can win on without also notching some casualty VPs. Not sure it would work, but the best option appears for the Austrians to play a soft defense and maintain their forces while trading objectives for time. Standing and fighting isn't to their advantage.
