Macva Peninsula and Jagodnja Mountain, Serbia, 6th September 1914:
When the Austro-Hungarians invaded Serbia for the second time, the main engagement was fought on the plains of the Macva Peninsula and the forested peaks of the Jagodjna Mountain. These two areas would develop into two vastly different and essentially isolated battles as Potiorek intended for 5.Armee to fix the Serbians in place while 6.Armee flanked around the Serbian Army to the south.
The attack was accelerated in order to have a spoiling effect on the Serbian offensive in Syrmia which was launched two days before. As the battle commenced, Potiorek was instructed by Conrad to, above all else, avoid any further setbacks or else the political ramifications would be catastrophic.
