The Marines were able to approach the old fort from an unguarded approach and prepared to assault the ramparts. Lieutenant Ring, knowing that he had been ordered to wait for F Company, ordered his Marines forward with the command, "OK Devil Dogs, let's take this hill."
Fort Rupert was where the whole conflict started as it was here that Coard had Bishop murdered, starting the unrest that would lead to American intervention.
