[Inchon, South Korea]: [HIS]:[H2H]:[BB] For two days destroyers and cruisers of Task Force 90 pounded Wolmi-do Island with 5" and 8" guns. Then on the early morning of 15th September, Marines of the third battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, climbed into their landing craft and headed for the beaches of Wolmi-do. There they met remnants of the 226th Marine Regiment, North Korean Peoples Army. In late afternoon after the tides moved back in, the remaider of 5th Marines landed at Red Beach in Inchon. They were to link up with Chesty Puller's 1st Marines that were landing at Blue Beach at the same time. In the next two days, the UN Forces would move east encountering light resistance, but established a beachhead line that extended to Ascom City. General MacArthur's Inchon Landing, code-named Operation Chromite, was a brilliant plan that turned the course of the early war in UN Forces favor. It saved South Korea from almost certain defeat at the Pusan Perimeter and routed the NKPA.
