Hill 241.1, West of Verkhopen'ye 12 July, 1943 (Scenario Size: Division, German Human vs Russian AI or Head to Head) General-Leiutenant Westhoven was getting pretty worried about the gap in his line in front ofTolstoye Woods. At about 1245 hours his worries were confirmed when the Russian burst out of the woods and overran the hill mass consisting of Hills 252.6, 233.1 and 241.1. As he saw Russian units appear on the forward edge of Hills 233.1 and 241.1, he was tempted to order a withdrawal. But then he saw them just sit there for over an hour, doing nothing. Grateful for the short reprieve, he recalled most of the units of his division to Verkhopen'ye to form a defense line west of it. At about 1410 hours the Russian 183rd Tank Brigade was seen coming down the road off of Hill 241.1, towards Verkhopen'ye. It slammed into the makeshift delense line that Westhoven had formed west of the town and was barely repulsed. Then at about 1500 hours, elements of the 6th Panzer Regiment started counterattacking from the south, followed by units of the 2nd Battalion, GD Panzer Regiment, from the northeast an hour later. Not only were the Russians pushed back to Hill 241, they were actually forced all the way back to Tolstoye Woods by nightfall.
