Heilbron area, 27 miles southeast of Frankfurt, June 18th 1985: After the relief of the defenders at Schweinfurt, the US 1st Armored Division began fighting a delaying action towards the west under the weight of heavy Warsaw Pact attacks. The division established a deliberate defensive position 17 miles east of the Neckar River in the Odenwald forest. After brief rain showers during the night, Warsaw Pact forces resumed the offensive. At dawn, as the mist began clearing in the rain drenched valleys of the Odenwald forest, East German and Soviet troops advanced hoping to surprise the Americans. "Old Ironsides" stood ready in their chariots of iron. [Size: medium] Designer's notes: Explicit supply is possible.

My Warsaw Pact opponent attacked aggressively and with skill. However, my dug in M1A1's proved to be a beast and extremely difficult for the WP to force NATO retreats. By Turn #22, (28 turn game) the Warsaw Pact forces were too fatigued and shot up to gain much ground. We called it at that point. Between equal skilled players, this scenario is balanced. A recommended Fulda Gap '85 scenario!

Those M1A1's in trenches are a beast but if you can get them in the open then Warsaw Pact numbers can be lethal but it's easier said then done.

Warsaw Pact must attack a NATO entrenched defender equipped with several M1A1 tank companies. NATO defense positions are supplemented with obstacles and mine fields. Difficult to extract M1A1's in trenches. Warsaw Pact forces aided by lots of artillery with some chemical ordnance. Forest terrain and river hex sides will channel Warsaw Pact attack toward VP hexes located in towns. Warsaw Pact forces must push hard and hit the entrenched M1A1's with everything they got. Judicious use of chemical ordnance, artillery and air strikes will help push the Warsaw Pact forces through the NATO defenses. Against equal skilled players, this scenario is balanced. A recommended Fulda Gap '85 scenario!
