marines and the infantrymen cross the river pretty quickly and in force, but start losing their edge once they plough into Japanese dugouts and fortifications, the proper placement of heavy weaponry with interlocking fields of fire whenever possible is a key factor here, establishing a clear LOS for the arty observers is on the other hand quite a stunt.
