This is an extremely unforgiving scenario for the USMC. The on-map Japanese mortars provide a continuous attrition capability against the US, while the heavier arty provides some serious killing power. The American attacker does not have a commensurate attrition capability, but does receive good OBA (11 strikes vs 8). One of the US strikes had an 86 turn min delay - likely a typo. The addition of the Japanese tanks appears to have been an afterthought - possibly a desire to combine the scenario \"Armored Surprise\" which is fine, except the US player is given a real paucity of AT capability in contrast to the Japanese dearth of AT Guns and tank destroyer teams provided to take on the US tanks. The total odds are 3 US Companies vs 2 Japanese Companies. My opponent and I mutually decided to decline reporting our game due to the agreed imbalance.
Previous results and comments have varied widely as to which side is favored in this scenario. After posting the results of our game, the results will be 3 major victories by the USMC and 3 major victories by the Japanese, with no minor defeats or draws. This is partially due to the victory point totals being too closely grouped. However it should also be noted that there is a typo in the scenario such that a major defeat should be -15, not 15. A major defeat currently is 15, a minor defeat is 0, a minor victory is 15, and a major victory is 30. This has the odd effect that the USMC side will always suffer a major defeat unless they exceed 15 points. By the way, this can be a very entertaining and challenging scenario, but a lot of that depends upon both people's styles of play (e.g., if either side is overly aggressive/passive, etc.).
A tough scenario for the USMC. The Japanese have on board Mortars and Artillery, plus several tanks. The USMC has a considerable amount of off board Naval Gun Fire Support and Air Support, plus a hand full of tanks. The USMC will find it difficult to win the attrition battle and secure enough victory hexes to win. One of the air strikes is listed as becoming available at Turn 86 and never materializes in game. Also, the in game scoring is listed as a Major Victory at 30, a Minor Victory at 15, a Minor Defeat at 0 and a Major Defeat at 15. According to this scoring, the USMC must attain at least 30 points and a Major Victory to secure any result other than a Major Defeat.

A draw to the last turn and then a minor Japanese Victory. Tough one for the both sides.
