The Battle of the Trebbia River was the first major engagement of the war and the first real test for Hannibal's army. With Gaul's and Ligurians now flocking to Hannibal's side after the victory at Ticinus, Hannibal's army was growing ever stronger. With Scipio now wounded and out of action, it was now down to Sempronius Longus to take command of the combined Roman army and defeat this threat.
The opposing armies were camped on the different sides of the river Trebbia, in the evening before the light faded Hannibal set up an ambush for the Roman commander, then the next morning, with the extremely cold and snowy weather, he send his Numidian cavalry to demonstrate outside the roman camp. Throwing caution to the wind Sempronius with his army set off in pursuit of the retreating Numidians, fording the icy Trebbia, unaware of the trap set before them. * Historical *
(Please note: the Carthaginian army has 3 other nations included in this scenario.)
