60km NW of Smolensk: On July 7th, 1941, PanzerGruppe 3 attacks Vitebsk from the march. The Russian forces defending this city are some of the best the Russian has available. In particular, the 1st Mechanized Division has some of the new T-34 tanks, just now available on this front. Together with other Russian mechanized forces, this will be a challenge to the German forces. The action depicted by this scenario covers the first four days of the northern section of the Smolensk Campaign Game. [11,000 sq Km - 40 Turns]

Plenty of souls for Ivan to feed to the devil, but no chance against a superior mobile force. The bar for victory for the German side is quite low and the contest will be decided long before they capture Vitebsk, the only objective on the map. Still good fun, though.
The first half of the scenario is great, but once the Germans cross the river its a foregone conclusion. The victory conditions seem a bit off as well, as the German player ended with five times as many points as necessary for a decisive victory.
Went 20 turns, while the fundamental battle is extremely tense and fluid, the point balance means the Russians will take a Major Loss to casualties long before Vitebsk is taken or any Germans exit the map, making any tactical finesse a moot point.
