North of Caen, on the Commonwealth beaches of GOLD, JUNO and SWORD: D-Day action on the left flanks of the Normandy Beachhead began with the glider drop of the 2nd "Ox and Bucks" Light Infantry whose task was to secure the bridges across the Orne River and Canal. The nighttime drop of the 6th British Airborne Division quickly followed and at dawn the British and Canadians began to wade ashore on beaches defended by troops of the German 716th Infantry Division. Stationed nearby however are elements of Hans von Luck's crack 125th Panzer Grenadier Regiment, 21st Panzer Division. The 12th SS Panzer Division and Panzer Lehr would soon reinforce them and attempt to throw the invaders back into the Sea. This scenario covers the first critical week's action in GOLD, JUNO and SWORD beachhead. For a 2 day version covering this same battle area, see #10 "The Race for Caen". [Size: large; Length: 70 turns]
A major victory can be reached even without entering Caen.
