Northwest of Caen, D+2, June 8th, 1944: Rommel and the senior German commanders agreed that a prerequisite for any further divisional attack was to seize the "Vital Ground" - presently held by the 7th Canadian Infantry Brigade - between the 25th SS and 26th SS Panzer Grenadiers. This was to be no easy task, the 12SS Pz Division had units spread as far away as the east side of the River Orne awaiting fuel. 25th Pz Gren Regt was on the defensive after counter-attacking the Canadians the day before. This left the 26th Pz Gren Regt to do the job. It had only its 1st Battalion intact ready for a pre dawn attack on Norrey. The 2nd Battalion was to attack Bretteville from the line of march on arrival. Meanwhile the 3rd Battalion was taking artillery fire and was even later getting ready than the 2nd, for its attack on Putot and Bronay. Add to that there was no Panzer support, although "Panzer Meyer" had been tasked to assist as soon as the Panthers arrived, but still........the "Vital Ground" had to be taken. *Designer Note: This scenario can be enjoyed as from either side or even H2H play, but is especially enjoyable as Axis Human vs. an Allied AI Opponent.
