West of Caen, D+19, June 25th, 1944 - Operation EPSOM: In late June, a major push by the British was planned whereby they intended to advance 8 km, take the bridges over the Odon River, and hold them while their tanks swept inland. The first stage was named Operation MARTLET. It was here that the men of the 49th (West Riding) Infantry Division, with the 8th Armoured Brigade under its command, commenced its first full scale operation of the war. With dawn, ground fog had reduced visibility to a minimum making air support out of the question. However, all available guns in the area produced a "storm of steel". The British infantry advanced behind this to face the fanatical 12th SS "Hitlerjugend" or Hitler Youth Division who, reports claim, said they would defend the rubble to the last round, and hold their positions against all-comers. *Designers Note: The Epsom series of scenarios can be enjoyed as from either side or even H2H play, but is especially fun as Allied Human vs. an Axis AI Opponent.[Size: Very Small; Length: 10 turns]
