Normandy Coast of Occupied France: Landing with overwhelming force the Allies secured a beachhead and then defeated the Germans in the reinforcement battle. But with their forces scattered far and wide and German Panzer Divisions on the prowl, the issue was at several times in doubt. This scenario is identical to #27 "Feet Wet" except that it utilizes the full map. [Size: huge; Length: 250 turns] EDITORS NOTE: This scenario is intended for play with manual defensive fire off (non-phased play). It can be played as human vs AI but was created for PBEM play. Scenario seems well balanced, no major flaws experienced. Both sides got their chance, but it requires a lot of cold nerves sometimes on the Axis side, especially before some reinforcements arrive.
I believe the Allied advantage was attributable in large part to the rules we used. Since it was an ALT scenario we used only the ALT Assault combat resolution and not all of the ALT combat resolutions. In hindsight, those rules are terribly important to how N44 works since they allow the Germans smaller units to hold out longer and conversely they allow the Germans to hurt the big allied stacks a little more. The VP ratio might not have gotten so completely out of hand had we used them.
Germans need to retreat immediately and have a defense in depth of at least 10 hexes. This might not be possible until reinforcements arrive much later so it’s a game of survival until then.
