Murom, 45km NE of Kharkov, May 13th 1942: Dawn broke on the second day of the battle to find Lt-Gen V. N. Gordov's 21st Russian Army renewing the offensive toward the west. The 76th and 233rd Rifle Divisions were linking up to secure an overall bridgehead on the west bank of the Northern Donets river. All attempts to penetrate deep into the German defenses in the Murom area were met with stubborn resistance.
