10km NW of Barvenkovo, May 20th, 1942: Successful operations of the Russian 2nd Cavalry Corps on May 19th caused apprehension in the German commanders; they saw the possibility of a counterattack from the area of Lozovaya towards Barvenkovo. Therefore, they quickly moved 16th Panzer Division to the west to preempt this threat. Once there, in cooperation with 100th Light and 1st Mountain, they went over to the offensive and broke through the 2nd Cavalry Corps.
