The Battle for Dnepropetrovsk - PzC 03 Kharkov '42

August 21st 1941, Thursday, 04:00 hrs. While most of the 1.Panzer Armee is regrouping after the successful conclusion of the Uman encirclement battle, III.AK(mot) is pushing towards Kremenchug on the river Dnepr, later towards Dnepropetrovsk at the river´s bend. Here, they find prepared positions of the newly formed 6th Army. Holding the lines are three newly but not fully formed Rifle Divisions, whose riflemen are recruited from the local populations of Dnepropetrovsk, Novo-Moskovsk, Pavlograd and others in the district, ready to defend their very homes. Also within this cauldron, badly mauled 6th Cavalry Corps can be found, just withdrawing few hundreds of kilometers, while lucky but shattered remnants of two tank divisions that managed to escape the Uman catastrophe. As the German command expects heavy fighting for the city, 9.Pz.Div. from the XIV.AK(mot) is being withdrawned from Zaporozhye further to the south and is already regrouping to join their comrades from the III.AK(mot). There is no way around the defenders this time, German formations must attack frontally and fight their way into the city right through the enemy lines.
