Belhamed, 30 November 1941: The climax of the fighting between the New Zealand Division and the remaining tanks of the Afrika Korps came on the last day of November. After holding the Tobruk corridor open for several days against long odds, the resistance of the 6th Brigade finally collapsed on the Sidi Rezegh escarpment followed a day later by the destruction of the 4th Brigade on the Belhamed/Zaafran heights. But the position at ed Duda and others along the Axis Bypass Road held out leaving the Germans in an improved but still precarious situation. The three German Divisions in Africa were mere shadows and 30th Corps was on the move.
