North Africa, December 8th 1940: Operation Compass in 1940 was the first battle of the desert war in North Africa. The original intent of the operation was reconnaissance and a limited offensive with the objective of disrupting Italian forces that had invaded Egypt in September 1940. After the attack began it soon became clear that the British forces could accomplish more than that. In less than two months the British conducted what turned out to be a blitzkrieg across 500 miles of North Africa destroying nine Italian divisions and taking 130,000 prisoners. The result of this devistating Italian defeat is what directly caused the arrival of the Desert Fox and his Afrikakorps to Libya in March 1941. [Size, large] *Designer's Notes: All Italian units begin the scenario disrupted in order to simulate the surprise of the attack and the general unprepared ness of the Italian chain of command to quickly react to the threat. Units in the Nibeiwa area begin fatigued to represent the sleepless night (on the 8th December) from the 11th Hussars harrassments. An impassible hex barrier has been added to the border of the map to prevent a gamey Italian player from withdrawing units at any location other than the northwestern border (north of hex 0,57). Intended for PBEM or human allied vs. AI axis. Explicit Supply is possible.

You have to use explicit supply or it is to easy for the British
We stopped this game at halfway point as we discovered that we were using old files which did not allow foot movement over AT ditch's, this very important fact had skewed the play to a point it was not worth carrying on, we did provide VM with feedback to improve the scenario some. :)
Okay, it's not the most exciting scenario, but it is damn sure a challenge and damn sure balanced. The Italian player must be patient and look for ways to make everything as expensive as possible for the British. The British must guard every vehicle and man like the crown jewels and minimize loss. The use of explicit supply is a must to make the Brits slow down and build up resources before each operation (i.e. Bardia and Tobruk)
