North Africa, December 10th 1940: As the main body of the WDF attacked at Nibeiwa, the British maintained the appearance that the main attack would come down the coast road through Maktila. To that end Selby Force was organized to "demonstrate down the coast road" in order to fix the Libyan 1st Infantry Division in place. By the evening of the 10th of December, Selby Force had received no further orders and the effect on the Libyans was wearing off. Selby Force decided it was time to act. As night fell Selby Force began maneuvering for an attack on Maktila supported by the 6th RTR from the south. The Libyans began to realize what was happening and a running battle then ensued as they attempted to extricate themselves towards Sidi Barrani.
