The Battle of Courtrai, 24 May 1940: As the Panzers ground to halt in the west, Fedor von Bock
unleashed the infantry of Heeresgruppe B in an all-out assault on the Belgian Army. The epicenter
of Bock's offensive was a stretch of the Lys River from Kortrijk (Courtrai) to the Roeselare-Leie
Canal. Defending the sector was Général Lozet's 3e division d'infanterie, a Walloon division which
had lost much of its strength during the retreat from the Liège fortresses. Badly outnumbered and
outgunned, Lozet's men could not hope to stem the coming onslaught....[Size: Small] Design Note:
