Anzio, Jan 22nd 1944: Alexander's original plan to take Rome contained three phases, attacks up the east side of Italy by the British 8th Army, attacks up the Liri Valley by the US 5th Army, and an amphibious landing on the coast south of Rome. Phase Three initially envisaged an amphibious landing together with an airborne landing by one Regimental Combat Team. This never happened, but 'what if' this plan had been used, albeit with the Germans a little more prepared for the landings? It should be pointed out, that the primary objectives were to shut down the Axis road and railroad supply movement on Highways 6, 7, and the railroad to the south, therefore, this is reflected in the objectives in this scenario.
