Eastern edge, Anzio Beachhead, January 26th 1944: During the first week of the landing, several attempts were made to expand the beachhead, but they were not part of an all out offensive, more probes at the German line. General Lucas would have liked to have taken Cisterna, but was not prepared to take any risks, so, on January 26th, the 504th Parachute Infantry were ordered to create a diversion on the right flank, to distract the Hermann Goering Division, while the US 3rd Infantry Division renewed its attempt to take Cisterna.
