Designer Notes: This scenario covers the first phase of Operation Rumyantsev with the Soviet breakthrough of the front and the advance towards Boghodukov and the area north of Kharkov.
Scenario Briefing: After Zitadelle, the Soviets launched a counteroffensive on the Orel salient on July 15th and later on the Mius River area. The Soviet advances forced German command to assign units of the PzAOk.4 including the Grossdeutschland Panzergrenadier Division to the north and the II.SS Panzerkorps and III.Panzerkorps to the area of the River Mius, thus weakening the area south of the Kursk salient. This part of the front was defended by the PzAOK.4 of General Hermann Hoth and Armee-Abteilung Kempf (8.AOK on August 16th.) Their positions were slightly further north than they had initially left for Zitadelle, with the divisions weakened after the fighting in July. Stavka planned the second counteroffensive after the Battle of Kursk, which it called Operation Rumyantsev, in which it launched the armies of three fronts against the weakened German armies. The objective was to pocket and expel the Germans from Kharkov.
Recommended Rules: (Default) \Alternative Assault Resolution, Artillery Set Up, Recon Spotting, Virtual Supply Trucks, Low Visibility Air Effects, Quality Fatigue Modifier, Counterbattery Fire, Night Fatigue, Programmed Weather, Limited Air Recon.
