Scenario Briefing: The left wing of the Voronezh Front was formed by the 38th, 40th and 27th Armies. While the 40th and 27th were included in the offensive plan of Rumyantsev, the 38th Army was ordered to maintain a defensive stance while the others attacked towards the south. But on August 6th, orders arrived at 38th Army headquarters at Mirepol'ye: Chibisov’s army had to attack across the VII.AK's front and take the important communications center at Sumy.
