Designer Notes: This scenario describes the defense made by the Grossdeutschland Panzergrenadier Division of the approaches to the Vorskla River and the city of Akhtyrka.
Scenario Briefing: The breakup of the German front in the Tomarovka-Borisovka area forced the Germans to move reinforcement units to the Kharkov region. One such unit was the Panzergrenadier Grossdeutschland Division, which was ordered to leave for Bryansk at the end of July and head towards its former area of operations near Kharkov. The Grossdeutschland moved to Akhtyrka from the beginning of August. Its units steadily arrived and were sent straight from the station to the front, where they took positions to the east, creating a defensive screen while awaiting Soviet attacks. Those attacks soon arrived: Vatutin ordered the 27th Army’s mobile force, the 4th Guards Tank Corps, to take Akhtyrka and the west bank of the Vorskla River. This was in order to protect the right flank of the 6th Guards Army and 5th Guards Tank Army which were heading south of Bogodukhov to break the PzAOK.4 and Armee-Abteilung Kempf in two.
Recommended Rules: (Default)
Alternative Assault Resolution, Artillery Set Up, Recon Spotting, Virtual Supply Trucks, Low Visibility Air Effects, Quality Fatigue Modifier, Counterbattery Fire, Night Fatigue, Programmed Weather, Limited Air Recon.
