Date: August 11th, 1943 - Size: Medium - Location: South of Bogodukhov
Designer Notes: This is the same scenario as #43_0811_07_Clash_South_Bogodukhov_RUS_PLAYER but with the map extended to the north and with more turns, playable as either Axis or Russian.
Scenario Briefing: German command designed a counterattack in the Bogodukhov area to regain the initiative and close the gap between PzAOK.4 and the now re-named AOK.8, formerly Armee-Abteilung Kempf. The issue was how to concentrate German armored units with the speed needed to attack the Soviet lines of advance; the 1st Tank Army had already left the infantry units of the 6th Guards and 27th Armies far behind. The Germans managed to position themselves just in time with the units intended to attack from the south. The III.PzK had three divisions of the SS (Totenkopf, Das Reich and Viking) and a weakened 3rd Panzer Division. Without waiting for the XXIV.PzK to attack from the north, the SS divisions of the III.PzK advanced with the initial objective to expel the Soviet units from the vital railway line that united Poltava with Kharkov and to recover the north bank of the rivers Merla and Merchik. This scenario describes these first movements of the Totenkopf and Das Reich Divisions, which, after the fighting in the area south of the Kursk salient, meet once again with the 5th Guards Tank Army, left much weaker after that confrontation.
Recommended Rules: (Default)
Alternative Assault Resolution, Artillery Set Up, Recon Spotting, Virtual Supply Trucks, Low Visibility Air Effects, Quality Fatigue Modifier, Counterbattery Fire, Night Fatigue, Programmed Weather, Limited Air Recon.

The German play must do as much damage as possible early on, or as in this game the Soviet player will be able to spread the German defenders out and focus on a few weaker spots to counterattack against.
