Scenario Briefing: This scenario covers the period from the landings until the clearing of the Leyte Valley by the Allies with the forces of the US Sixth Army and Filipino forces fighting the Japanese 16th Division and attached assets.

This first phase of the operation included the famous Battle of Leyte Gulf. Air availability for the Allied player will be affected by the loss or withdrawal of the naval units. The surface ships also withdrawal either due to damage from the Kamikaze planes or to be used elsewhere in the theater.

Notes:
1. The US 8th Cavalry Regiment is amphibious so they can conduct a mini-campaign over to Samar Island.

2. The Japanese "Ad Hoc Force" reinforcements enter play three days earlier than their historical date in order to compensate for the lack of a three day halt of operations by the Allied forces due to the Battle of Leyte Gulf disrupting the overall operation.

Recommended Rules: [Default]
Alternative Assault Resolution, Artillery Set Up, Recon Spotting, Virtual Supply Trucks, Low Visibility Air Effects, Quality Fatigue Modifier, Counterbattery Fire, Night Fatigue, Programmed Weather, Limited Air Recon.

Very very tough as the Japanese.

Mo air support, artillery assets few in number, largely consisting of Infantry Guns that are useless against the US Army tanks and heavily outnumbered.

Thr terrain and weather make it a slog for the Americans but imho an American win is almost inevitable given competent US play.

To play Japan in the scenario is to simply play the part of a smarter AI. Despite the high quality units (which is crazy for units that have been sitting in garrison for 2 years) you have no real offensive potential. Your artillery sucks, air force non-existent, but you're fanatical and have assault values that simply can't be justified any other way than a gamey mechanism to make the game play reasonable. An 8 HA value for Japanese infantry can not be justified without making a mockery of the notion that all OOB values are drawn from the McNamara Data Base. No other nation has such ability in PzC. So, it's boring as hell, but just sit back and assault the shit out of any vehicle that dares approach unescorted and you will always win. If cornered, cram as many sons of Nippon as you can in a Bunker and watch as the US assaults take 30-40 turns to clear you out. Some theaters simply shouldn't be gamed on the PzC scale.....so far I'm thinking this may be one of them.

Bunkers bunkers bunkers. I suggest US players try their hardest to prevent the Japanese retreat into the bunker filled airfield complex. If you let them, you won’t be able to dislodge them. Keep mindful of the forces across the bridge in the north.
