Scenario Briefing: The X Corps' objective was to land in the Tacloban-Palo area, secure the Tacloban airfield on A-Day, press on to the Leyte Valley as well as link up with XXIV Corps to the south by A+3. To that end the 1st Cavalry Division was tasked with taking the airfield and the town of Tacloban while the 24th Infantry Division took Palo and drove to the west and south. Defending the various defensive positions was the 33rd Infantry Regiment of the 16th Division along with some Naval units in Tacloban.
The Japanese did not actively defend the beach area but as soon as the US and Filipino forces moved inland they came under moderate to heave fire from the MGs and guns dug in up in the hills west of the beaches. Strong defenses will hold up the Allied advance on A-Day.
The scenario opens with the US engineers companies landing to remove the beach obstacles followed on the next turn by the first wave.
