Intended for Head-to-Head play

Scenario Briefing: In this variant of the historical campaign for Leyte Island, the Japanese naval group under Admiral Kurita pushed their advantage, sunk the remaining escort carriers and sent US Admiral Lee's battleship group packing following this up by destroying the cargo ships at anchor in Leyte Gulf. As a result, the US forces on the island were left high and dry without adequate supplies and the entire reinforcement schedule was thrown off by several weeks. Kurita was able to extract his forces through the Surigao Straits before Admiral Halsey's carriers could return to save the day.

The consequences of the Japanese naval victory would have delayed the US reinforcements and thus made victory that much more difficult. Can the Allies win the battle for Leyte Island or will this doom the entire Philippines Campaign?

The Allied side will suffer a severe supply level loss starting on October 27th which will last all the way through to November 15th. All reinforcements arriving on or after October 27th will be delayed by one week.

Japanese naval forces will be available for bombardment for one evening during the campaign at the discretion of the Axis player. They will arrive late in the day and be withdrawn by the 0400 turn of the next morning.

Notes:
1. The US 8th Cavalry Regiment is amphibious so they can conduct a mini-campaign over to Samar Island.

2. The Japanese "Ad Hoc Force" reinforcements enter play three days earlier than their historical date in order to compensate for the lack of a three day halt of operations by the Allied forces due to the Battle of Leyte Gulf disrupting the overall operation.
