Scenario Briefing: Once the northern edge of Heartbreak Ridge had been cleared the 24th Division did an "end around" run up the coast with the 1st Battalion of the 34th RCT. They landed to the north of Heartbreak Ridge, circled around to the southwest and attacked the Japanese 57th Regiment, entrenched on Kilay Ridge, from the rear. The action was tense as the attack got underway and for the next day both sides would fight fiercely for control of the ridge. LTC Clayton's battalion would eventually take the ridge and hold off several counterattacks before they were relieved.
