Scenario Briefing: With the arrival of Allied air formations on Leyte Island in October 1944, General Yamashita knew that once more fighter and bomber squadrons were moved up to the island that the Allies would be able to interrupt the line of communications from Japan to the South Pacific Area. In order to delay this, he sent a rough plan to Gen. Suzuki, commander of the 35th Army, that would launch a combined operation by both paratroops and ground forces on the night of December 6th to attack the Dulag and Burauen airfields.
Suzuki countered with a plan of his own whereby the attack would commence by December 7th, but Yamashita was insistent that the attack take place as planned.
Historically, the operation was a disaster. The Japanese paratroops landed in small amounts of men and were scattered. The ground troops were late in joining up with the attack on the airfields due to the rugged terrain they had to traverse. The fighting was chaotic with the Allied caught by surprise but reinforcements arrived to drive off the attackers. The battle with small pockets of Japanese forces would rage for days until all pockets of resistance had been eliminated.
What if Yamashita had allowed Suzuki to go with his plan of attacking two days later on the 8th when the weather would improve?
Note: there is no Allied airpower available due to the fact that it was quite often hard to distinguish friend from foe.
Recommended Rules: [Default]
Alternative Assault Resolution, Artillery Set Up, Recon Spotting, Virtual Supply Trucks, Low Visibility Air Effects, Quality Fatigue Modifier, Counterbattery Fire, Night Fatigue, Programmed Weather, Limited Air Recon.
