Scenario Briefing: The goal of the US 38th Division in the Luzon operation was to land on the west coast of the island and drive east, take Subic Bay and then continue through the Zig Zag Pass to link up with XIV Corps which would be advancing south of Angeles towards Manila. It was essential that the 38th protect the XIV Corps right flank from Japanese troops known to be in the Dinulupihan area.
Guarding the pass were elements of the Nagayoshi Detachment composed of the 3rd Battalion, 39th Regiment and assorted naval and army aviation personnel. The Japanese had constructed a multi-layered assortment of defenses on the ridges above Highway 7, the road the wound through the pass, which looked down on the serpentine route. They held the high ground and for fourteen days would do battle with an entire US infantry division.
This scenario covers the period 1st thru 11th February. The Allied player is expected to perform better than their historical counterparts.
