Date: February 16, 1945 - Size: Small - Location: Corregidor Island, Entrance to Manila Bay, Central Luzon Island, Philippines
Intended for Solo Play as Allies vs. AI
Scenario Briefing: This scenario covers the recapture of Corregidor Island by "Rock Force" which was composed of the 503rd PIR and the 3rd battalion of the 34th RCT (reinforced) vs. the Japanese Bay Entrance Defense Force composed of eight naval garrison battalions, one provincial infantry battalion and one light AA company. The 503rd PIR would drop onto the parade field and golf course on "Topside" while the 3/34th RCT would make an amphibious landing near the North Dock area.
The parachute landing just after 8 AM took the Japanese completely by surprise and they were not prepared when the 3/34th RCT made their amphibious landing just after 10 AM. The Japanese defense was disorganized following the death of their commander, Captain Akira Itagaki, at the hands of some paratroopers who had dropped off course right on top of his HQ.
By the afternoon of the first day the paras had taken the high ground and the infantry had secured Malinta Hill. For the next several days the Japanese would make surprise counterattacks but without a coordinated plan the US forces were there to stay.
The vast majority of the Japanese garrison would not be involved in the action and would remain in the tunnels during the battle. A sudden banzai charge took place on February 18 but only lead to the death of the attackers by the battle-savvy US paratroopers.
While the colors were hoisted above the island on March 2nd, the Japanese continued to emerge and fight in small groups.
This scenario simulates the first two days of the fight to recapture the island. The scale of the series and the size of the island on the map precludes any detailed recreation of the events. This scenario was added in for those that want to recreate part of this famous event.
Recommended Rules: [Default]
Alternative Assault Resolution, Artillery Set Up, Recon Spotting, Virtual Supply Trucks, Low Visibility Air Effects, Quality Fatigue Modifier, Counterbattery Fire, Night Fatigue, Programmed Weather, Limited Air Recon.
