Scenario Briefing: By mid February the Shobu Group units had retreated up into the highlands to the northeast of San Fabian. The Sixth Army was stretched to its limits trying to take Manila and secure Clark Field so the offensive in the north was put on hold. I Corps advanced to locations that they coud use as a springboard for an offensive on the key location of Santa Fe up in the high country to the southeast of Baguio.
With the addition of the US 32nd Infantry Division, the I Corps finally was able to go over to the attack in early March.
The difficult terrain along the Villa Verde and Ballete Trails were some of the worst on the island. The Japanese dug in and for more than two months they held these two key passes. San Jose would not fall until May 26th.
This scenario recreates the initial attempts by the Allies to take the passes. Certain objectives will expires during play. Both players should check the Objective Dialog to know when this will happen.
