Scenario Briefing: One of the objectives for the 158th RCT during the campaign to clear southern Luzon was to capture Mt. Macolod, a prominent location which the Japanese could use as not only a strong point but also for observing the movements of the Allied forces as they swept through the region. The original attack by two battalions of the regiment kicked off on 15 March 1945 but failed to capture the feature.
What if the US forces had been reinforced with their 3rd battalion along with additional artillery plus armored and air support? Could they have taken the objective?
