Scenario Briefing: The 148th RCT had crossed the Cagayan River at Naguilian and was ordered to continue north in pursuit of Japanese forces. At various places along the route they ran into stubborn nests of resistance and had to deploy and root them out.

The Yuguchi Force (179th Independent Infantry Battalion plus armored attachments) was strung out along Route 5 heading south from Aparri trying to reach the "Redoubt" on the west side of the river when they ran into the advancing Yanks. The resulting encounter saw the destruction of the Yamaguchi Force and the end of any organized resistance in the Cagayan Valley. On June 26th, near Baybayog to the north, the 37th Infantry Division's 129th RCT met up with the 1st Battalion of the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment. The 129th reached Aparri on the north shore of Luzon the next day.
