Date: March 6, 1945 - Size: Medium - Location: 67 km SW of Budapest.
Intended for Soviet player.
Scenario Briefing: The II SS-Panzer Corps had been given a formidable task, its initial mission was to establish a bridgehead over the Danube between Dunaujvaros and Dunafoldvar 60 kilometers away, its path was guarded by the 18th Tank Corps (provided a mobile reserve in the Sarosd area), four rifle divisions and the 1st Guards Mechanized Corps were positioned just west of the Danube directly in the path of the II SS-Panzer Corps.
The entire landscape was a morass of mud and caused a delay of almost a day and it was necessary to commit the panzer regiment of the 23rd Panzer Division to assist the Corps advance in the early stages. Some tanks disappeared in the mud up to their turrets, the SS-Panzergrenadiers, struggling to advance on their feet, were thus without effective armored support.
The 2nd SS-Panzer Division and 9th SS-Panzer Division were to attack side by side on a 10 kilometer front, from a starting line running west from Seregélyes. The initial objectives were Sárkeresztúr and Sarosd. The key towns of Aba and Sárkeresztur, on the only main road were flanked by a series of elevations (especially Hill 159) that dominated the right sector, were imperative to reach the Corps objectives. Fighting for these features dominated the entire Corps offensive until March 13, by which time the Corps was basically on the defensive, successfully repelling the numerous Soviet attacks and no further advance was possible. Meanwhile the Soviets were moving a dozen Rifle Divisions into the area along with the fresh 6th Guards Tank Army for the Vienna Offensive.
Recommended Rules: [Default] Alternative Assault Resolution, Artillery Set Up, Recon Spotting, Virtual Supply Trucks, Low Visibility Air Effects, Quality Fatigue Modifier, Counterbattery Fire, Night Fatigue, Programmed Weather, Limited Air Recon.
