Date: March 06, 1945 - Size: Medium - Location: 55 km SW of Budapest.
Intended for Head to Head.
Scenario Briefing: The III Panzer Corps was tasked with screening the II SS-Panzer Corps’ left flank, Initially the Corps, which had only 1st Panzer Division and 356th Infantry Division available, advanced some kilometers to the east, south of Lake Valence, and penetrated Seregélyes, which took 3 days to capture completely. With the arrival of several armored reinforcements, including the 3rd Panzer Division, the Corps advanced towards Gardony, from where they were stopped by a massive Soviet air assault, and south towards Oreg Hill.
This threatened the rear of the Soviet defense zone in the Soviet 30th Corps area, causing alarm in the Soviet command. The reaction was swift. Marshal Tolbukhin, commander of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, reinforced Lt. Gen. Gagen, commander of the 26th Army, with elements of the 27th Army that were in reserve destined for the upcoming Vienna Offensive Operation. He also ordered the 207th SU Anti-Tank Brigade and a Task Force from the 23rd Tank Corps to march. As the situation worsened for the Soviets, Tolbukhin ordered the entire 35th Guards Rifle Corps from 27th Army and 31st Guards Rifle Corps from 4th Guards Army supported by elements of the Army to engage the advancing Germans.
The Germans added their last reserves, the 6th Panzer Division, for the final push. The strong Soviet resistance around Oreg Hill diverted the German advances toward Csongrad, where their advance was finally halted on March 13 under the imminent threat of the Soviet Vienna Offensive Operation.
Design Notes: The 31st Guards Rifle Corps of the 4th Guards Army, which was destined for Vienna Offensive Operation, arrives fixed in the game with no release date. They were sent to block the German advance in case of a breakthrough from the northeast, which did not happen.
Recommended Rules: [Default] Alternative Assault Resolution, Artillery Set Up, Recon Spotting, Virtual Supply Trucks, Low Visibility Air Effects, Quality Fatigue Modifier, Counterbattery Fire, Night Fatigue, Programmed Weather, Limited Air Recon.
