Date: March 8, 1945 - Size: Medium - Location: 72 km SW of Budapest.
Intended for Head to Head play.
Scenario Briefing: On March 8, the I SS-Panzer Corps attack gathered momentum, and by early morning Antalmajor and Hill 191 had been secured against minimal opposition. However, the failure of II SS-Panzer Corps to advance on the east side of the Sarviz Canal was inevitably causing deep concern at Army Group South Headquarters. The 12th SS-Panzer Division had the mission to cut the Enying-Dég road west of Dég and penetrate towards Bogánd and Mesözsillas, the main objective. With only 18 tanks and 3 tank destroyers, the imminent arrival of the 209th Anti-Tank Brigade (equipped with the powerful SU-100 tank destroyer) and the 5th Guards Cavalry Corps posed a serious threat.
The 1st SS-Panzer Division had to deploy an extensive flank guard while advancing towards Dég and Mesözsilla. At Antalmajor-Hill 191 the Soviets launched a strong counterattack led by the 208th Anti-Tank Brigade equipped with the powerful SU-100 and supported by the 43rd Anti-Tank Brigade (towed) and the 236th Rifle Division (fresh from reserve). SS-Panzer Regiment 1 was seriously depleted with only 23 tanks and 7 tank destroyers (another 41 tanks and 15 tank destroyers were under repair on short notice).
The King Tiger and SU-100 tanks tested their strength in the mud while on the right flank both sides tried to take control of the Canal bridges.
Notes: The PanzerGrenadiers of the 12-SS Panzer Division had a large number of anti-tank weapons, including the latest Panzerfaust and even several times more Panzerschreck and anti-tank rifle grenades (Grosse PanzerGreante 61) than the standard TO&E that could deal with any Russian tank up to 200 meters.
Recommended Rules: [Default] Alternative Assault Resolution, Artillery Set Up, Recon Spotting, Virtual Supply Trucks, Low Visibility Air Effects, Quality Fatigue Modifier, Counterbattery Fire, Night Fatigue, Programmed Weather, Limited Air Recon.
