Date: March 8, 1945 - Size: Medium - Location: 55 km SW of Budapest.
Intended for Axis player.
Scenario Briefing: The Panzer Divisions 2nd SS-Panzder Division and 9th SS-Panzer Division were to attack side by side (together with the 44th Infantry Division "Hoch und Deutschmeister") the key towns of Aba, Sarosd and Sárkeresztur flanked by a series of fortified elevations (especially hill 159) that dominated the right area of operations.
The entire landscape was a muddy quagmire. The attack reached a high point about five kilometers northwest of Sarosd, but then bogged down. Again, the supporting tanks were mired and the grenadiers could make only limited progress on their own against the well-prepared Soviet pak-fronts (the Soviets claim that the 2nd SS-Panzer Division made nine separate attacks during March 9). The 44th Infantry Division "Hoch und Deutschmeister" managed to advance four kilometers to a village northeast of Aba, but again Soviet counterattacks were decisive to halt them.
On March 10 the Soviets counterattacked with fresh armored formations against the hills and Axis pincers attempting to outflank the Soviet-held hill forts, which provoked fierce armored battles.
Desig Notes: The Soviet counterattacks start on the March 8, just watch the right flank.
Recommended Rules: [Default] Alternative Assault Resolution, Artillery Set Up, Recon Spotting, Virtual Supply Trucks, Low Visibility Air Effects, Quality Fatigue Modifier, Counterbattery Fire, Night Fatigue, Programmed Weather, Limited Air Recon.
Intended for Axis player.
