Description: In an effort to gain the initiative following the stalling of the 20th Guards Motorized Rifle Division's assault west of Frankfurt, the 3rd Armored Division launched a deliberate attack against a prepared position held by the 242nd Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment during the early morning of June 2. This was to be the first major offensive operation conducted by US forces and if successful could help turn back the red tide.
