Munda 17 March 45 BC - Scaled down 1:10 version of the battle. After defeating the Republican/Numidian forces in Africa, Caesar was forced to return to Spain where Pompey's sons Gnaeus and Sextus, supported by Caesar's former lieutenant Titus Labienus, had secured the alliegiance of two former Pompeian legions and had raised fresh troops and been joined by various remnants of other Republican forces. According to the pro-Caesarian Spanish War, the army is said to have numbered some 13 legions plus around 6,000 cavalry and the same number of light infantry and auxiliaries, while Caesar had only 8 legions and 8,000 cavalry, many light horse brought over from Africa by his client king Bogud of Mauritania. The Pompeians formed up on a gentle hill a short distance from Munda and Caesar's veterans faced a tough fight until his Mauritanian allied cavalry were able to attack the enemy position in the rear.
