The Battle Of The Barricades* * September 25, 1950* * Seoul, South Korea* * USMC Attack vs. North Korea Defend* * Design: C. Berry* * * Following the landings at Inchon, the 1st Marine Division was poised to retake the capitol city of Seoul. The division's main objective was the Government House complex located in the northern portion of the city.* * The North Korean command realized that they could not hold the city so had pulled the bulk of their troops out to avoid encirclement. The remaining troops formed hedgehog defensive positions behind barricades at heavily mined intersections and scattered snipers througout the town.* * On September 24, the 1st Marine Regiment began it's attack with the 1st Battalion advancing along the wide, tree lined Ma Po Boulevard. Progress was slow with the Marines having to clear mines; often under fire, to bring up tank support. Then they reduced the fortified positions at each intersection before moving on to repeat the process at the next barricade.* * This routine continued for three days with the 2nd Battalion taking over the attack on the morning of the 25th (this is the start of the scenario). The 1st Regiment linked up with the 5th Marines, approaching from the northwest, on the 26th.
