Even though the Palau Islands have been neutralized by US air attacks, Admiral Nimitz has overruled Admiral Halsey's objections to a landing on the small island of Peleliu, one of the southernmost islands in the Palau chain.
Hence, General Rupertus' 1st Marine Division is to storm ashore at dawn on the 15th September, seizing the airbase and Asias Barracks before neutralizing the Japanese fortifications on the Umurbrogol and Amiangal Mountains further north.
General Rupertus predicts that Japanese resistance will be destroyed in just two or three days, but unbeknown to him, the Japanese commanders are preparing a far tougher defense than anything the Americans had seen before. This could very easily turn into a battle that takes months, not days.
In reality, the last body of Japanese troops on Peleliu surrendered on the 21st April 1947, over two and a half years after the US Marines first landed, while a lone Korean laborer lasted even longer, not giving himself up until 1954.

Allies enjoy overwhelming forces, especially artillery, and have little difficulty in quickly overrunning the defending Japanese troops. Allied Marginal Victory is guaranteed and Decisive Victory is very achievable. Nothing in the game play would suggest that this Operation is a Stalemate! Disappointing and not recommended scenario.
