A Knife to the Throat - The Matrix Games version of East Front II

Nekrasino, 8km W of Klin, 85km NNW of Moscow: [Best played as Axis or against Human opponent] The Soviet counteroffensive which had kicked off on December 5th, had failed to capture the city of Klin, a vital road hub through which the only paved east-west road ran, the primary supply route for the 3rd Panzer Gruppe. As a result, the Soviet offensive pressed onward, seeking a point where they might turn south and cut the highway further to the west. 3rd Panzer Gruppe command responded to the crisis. Two kampfgruppen were formed from elements of the 1st and 2nd Panzer Divisions. These units were ordered north to hold the road open and allow the withdrawal of the 3rd Panzer Gruppe from the Klin bulge. Both forces met at Nekrasino, where a wild and confused meeting engagement resulted. This is the fourth, and climactic scenario covering the Soviet winter 1941 counteroffensive against the "Klin Bulge."
